Frequently Asked Questions

About the Protocol

What is CouplesFast?

CouplesFast is a structured fasting protocol designed specifically for couples. It combines the physical benefits of intermittent and extended fasting with intentional relationship-building practices. Unlike solo fasting, CouplesFast creates a shared experience that deepens intimacy and builds resilience together.

Is this just intermittent fasting for two people?

No. While CouplesFast includes intermittent fasting windows, it's a comprehensive protocol that includes preparation phases, extended fasting periods, mindfulness practices, and structured communication exercises. The couple-specific elements are what make it unique and effective for relationships.

How long does the protocol last?

The complete CouplesFast protocol is designed as a 28-day journey with four distinct phases: Preparation Week (7 days), First Fast (3 days), Integration Period (14 days), and Extended Fast (4 days). You can repeat cycles or adapt the timeline based on your goals.

Safety & Health

Is fasting safe?

For most healthy adults, structured fasting under proper guidance is safe and beneficial. However, fasting is not appropriate for everyone. You should consult your healthcare provider before starting any fasting protocol, especially if you have any medical conditions, take medications, are pregnant or nursing, or have a history of eating disorders.

Who should NOT do CouplesFast?

Do not fast if you are: pregnant or nursing, under 18 years old, underweight or have a history of eating disorders, have Type 1 diabetes or uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes, take certain medications that require food, or have certain medical conditions. Always consult your doctor first.

What if one partner has health restrictions?

The protocol can be adapted so partners participate at different levels. One partner might do full fasting while the other does time-restricted eating or simply participates in the mindfulness and communication exercises. The key is doing it together, even if the specifics differ.

What can I consume during the fast?

During fasting windows: water, black coffee, plain tea (herbal or green), sparkling water, and electrolytes. Avoid anything with calories including bone broth, cream, sugar, artificial sweeteners, or supplements that break a fast. Our protocol includes specific guidance on what's allowed in each phase.

For Couples

What if my partner isn't interested?

CouplesFast requires mutual commitment. If your partner is hesitant, start with education—share articles on fasting benefits, watch documentaries together, or suggest trying a simple 16:8 intermittent fasting window for a week as a trial. The protocol works best when both partners are genuinely interested.

What if we have different schedules?

The protocol includes flexibility for different schedules. You can align your fasting windows to overlap during key times (evenings, weekends) while maintaining slightly different start/end times during the workweek. The guided program includes strategies for this.

Do we need to be in the same location?

While being together is ideal, couples can do CouplesFast remotely. The Guided Journey includes video check-ins, digital journaling tools, and virtual couple exercises. Many long-distance couples have successfully completed the protocol.

Practical Questions

Can we exercise during the fast?

Yes, but with modifications. Light to moderate exercise (walking, yoga, light strength training) is encouraged. Intense workouts are best saved for eating windows or done in a fasted state only if you're experienced with fasting. Listen to your body and scale back if needed.

What about social events?

Plan your fasting windows around major social commitments when possible. The protocol includes strategies for social situations, including how to explain your practice to friends and family, and when to make exceptions vs. stay committed to your fast.

What if I feel terrible during the fast?

Some discomfort (hunger, mild headache, fatigue) is normal in the first 24-48 hours as your body adapts. However, if you experience severe symptoms, dizziness, extreme weakness, or concerning issues, break your fast and consult your doctor. The protocol includes guidance on what's normal vs. concerning.

How much does it cost?

The free guide gives you the complete protocol framework. The Self-Guided Journey ($47) adds comprehensive resources, templates, and recipes. The Guided Journey ($497) includes weekly live sessions with experts, community support, and personalized guidance throughout your 28-day cycle.

Results & Expectations

What results can we expect?

Physical: Most couples report 5-12 lbs of weight loss, increased energy, better sleep, and improved mental clarity. Relationship: Common benefits include deeper intimacy, improved communication, shared sense of accomplishment, and renewed connection. Results vary based on commitment and individual factors.

How quickly will we see results?

Many couples report feeling more connected and energized within the first week. Physical changes become noticeable around days 10-14. The deepest relationship benefits often emerge in the integration period as you process the experience together.

Can we do multiple rounds?

Yes! Many couples do quarterly CouplesFast cycles (every 3 months) as an ongoing relationship practice. Some prefer doing it twice yearly or annually. The protocol can be repeated as often as feels beneficial, with at least 4-6 weeks between extended fasting periods.
